Road Block

We have learned a lot thus far on this journey, haven't we....I caved. I ate a desert that contained chocolate chips. Nothing else bad, but still. I literally felt like I needed it. As I crammed the chocolate down my throat, I felt relief. I felt the way you feel when you are extremely thirsty and gulp down water, or when you have been holding your pee forever and finally get to squat on the john. My body is under the control of sugar, obviously! Moments after I ate it, I had a sore tummy. I had forgotten how annoying my daily tummy aches were, and this reminder brought to my attention the fact that since I got off sweets, my tummy aches were diminishing.

So, sugar is bad. This we know. However, we have been doing more research and I fear that perhaps our alternatives; honey and agave, are not much better. Should we then conclude to use moderation in all things? Are raw sugar and cane juice the best options when we need a sweetener? Do we move to removing processed foods and worry less about sugar intake? Thoughts?

  1. ps Here is an article on how corn syrup is no worse than sugar; both are equally bad, it says.

  2. I was talking to one of my friend about this and she does a similar diet. She uses an organic sugar substitute. I'll find out the name of it tomorrow and let you know. Then you can do your own research on it to see if it's something you can use.
I had a pie party this past Sunday. That totally did it for me. It was a premeditated sugar intake. Although I didn't plan on the side effects. I've had the worst stomach ache and headaches. I won't get into the other things that are exiting my body. It's amazing what going without it for only a week can do. I will admit I've had a hard time getting back on track. Even after how crappy I've been feeling.

  3. For me, it's feeling so crappy that makes me not eat bad stuff again. I get so sick after fried food that when I think I crave it, I remember the 5-10 hour stomach ache and compare it to the 10 minute indulgence and I am not even tempted. With sugar, though, There are certain desserts that don't make me sick at all. Granted, I cannot over-do it the way I did in high school, but small amounts don't bother me, so it's hard to fend it off! However, I think the lesson of today is moderation in all things, so I suppose it's good that my body can handle some sweets. This month, however, I'm sticking to the extreme. I want to see how my body does without sugar for such a long period of time. So far, I feel great! but boy does chocolate taunt me to no end.

  4. Good job ladies. Dana, I have had chocolate chips and two bowls of cocoa puffs. Not too bad for three weeks, but still. I get a tummy ache, particularly from the chocolate chips.

Some sweets that help satisfy my are dates with coconut, pure maple syrup and waffles and fresh fruit salad. Also, making desserts from scratch really helps. We can substitute sugar for whatever form of natural sweetener we decide is best. Butter can be substituted with apple sauce, and so on.
